Licorice

Hissy Old Licorice is gone! Today wes is publishing his Obituary – you can also reads it on Mommy’s website http://www.barbkowalik.com/licoricememorial.html

Licorice Kowalik also known as Lic, Mr. L, Leisure Suit, Lickity Split and Damn Cat passed quietly over the Rainbow Bridge surrounded by his family at 11:25PM November 20th, 2010 in Midway, BC.

Licorice was born in Comox, BC. He and his siblings were found in a plastic bag in the middle of the road and taken to the SPCA. There he wrestled back death and came to live with his forever parents on January 10th 1991. Licorice lived a full and happy life and was a much travelled cat. He lived a number of different cities starting with Cumberland, Greenwood, Midway, Vancouver, Surrey, Port Alberni, Edmonton and Calgary. Midway was always his favorite place. He enjoyed bird hunting and watching, snake catching, camping, tearing around the house in the middle of the night, killing his rolly ball, attacking the bait whilst playing “catfish” and sleeping in the sun.

Licorice had too many accomplishments to list, but the most memorable was overcoming his fear of balloons. He had a quirky sense of humor, realizing his father’s fear of snakes, he used to catch them and bring them into the house!

Licorice is survived by his companion Penelope, his dog sisters Bob (Roberta) and Sam (Samantha) his people brothers Alex and Ian and people parents Dave and Barb Kowalik. Licorice was predeceased by his dog sister Kokanee, who I am sure was waiting for him across the rainbow bridge.

Licorice was interred in the garden in Midway, Sunday November 21, 2010. A permanent memorial will be erected at a later date.

We will miss coming home to his warm welcome. His little heart could have gone on forever. We know his spirit always will.

  1. Oh, my condolences on the passing of Licorice. I know you were expecting it, but its still sad. What a wonderful life he had though, after such a horrible beginning. He’s across the rainbow bridge now playing with Kokanee, and no doubt looking for snakes!

I know you will miss him a lot Penelope, but he is happy and you’re right about his spirit always being with you!

    Gentle hugs,
    Donna

  7. We just learned about Licorice and came by to leave purrs and tail wags for his family. A very nice tribute to him. He evidently was multi-talented. And Jan is glad none of us go outside to catch snakes and bring them inside!

    • He was a good cat (unlike me, who gets in trouble all the time) excepting for the snakes! Me thinks its all because of the ballons!

  8. We had not had the pleasure of meeting Licorice before we heard about his passing, but we came to leave our purrs of condolence and know he had a wonderful life with you…the love he gave back to you was because of the love you gave to him…
